About Humpback Whale Freediving
Tonga is the destination for an epic whale migration and one of the few places in the world where you can swim with these remarkable animals.
Each year as sea temperatures around the Antarctic drop, one of the world’s greatest migrations begins. Humpback whales start their 6,000km journey to give birth in the warm waters around the Kingdom of Tonga.
Having gorged themselves on krill that thrive in the Antarctic waters during the summer, the whales make their way along the east coast of New Zealand to the sheltered waters of Tonga. Here calves are born and raised between July and October in preparation for the return journey to Antarctic waters.

Diving with Whales (FAQs) Need to Know
Do I need to be a strong swimmer to dive with humpback whales?
Yes – you will be swimming and snorkelling in the open ocean and so you do need to be a confident swimmer.
Is freediving with humpback whales suitable for families?
Yes absolutely – the tropical island location offers a great deal for families over and above the whale watching and swimming experience. Holidays can also include diving, kiteboarding, fishing and much more. Due to the remote location, the resort welcomes children over the age of 12.
