Waterberg
South Africa’s best kept secret has a rich tapestry of biodiversity, making it a superb family safari destination.
Waterberg Safaris
The Waterberg region has been described as South Africa’s best kept secret. It features ancient mountains, a rich tapestry of biodiversity, thousand-year-old rock art and a site of important archaeological interest.
Its rolling savannahs also make it a popular safari destination, where herds of wildlife, an abundance of birds and diverse plant life can be enjoyed on the game reserves and private farms. The 75 mammal species include big game such as elephant, lion, white and black rhino, hippo, leopard and buffalo. It’s also a bird watcher’s paradise, with more than 300 bird species.
The Waterberg district offers a wonderful experience that combines some of South Africa’s best features: mountains, Big Five game viewing and exploring a captivating prehistoric past. Being non-malarial, it’s a great area for families to visit with horse riding being another attraction.

Best Time To Visit Waterberg
The Waterberg can be visited all year round, but the dry, cooler season May-October is the best time for wildlife viewing.
The hotter summer season November-March is when it rains, and this changes the scenery to being green and lush.
