Riding Safaris
in South Africa
One of the best ways to see the wildlife and countryside that South Africa has to offer is from the back of a beautifully schooled horse
About Riding Safaris in South Africa
South Africa is one of the most geographically diverse countries in Africa. It has some of the world’s most breath-taking terrain – lush green forests, stunning mountain ranges, subtropical bushveld, savanna grasslands and arid dry deserts.
The riding partners we work with in South Africa are carefully chosen and all share the same exacting standards of professionalism and expertise, with the provision of sure footed, beautifully schooled and bush savvy horses. Accommodation at our Waterberg operations, close to The Kruger National Park, range from luxurious private ranch houses, which act as the base on a riding safari, to comfortable tented camps.
Unlike the operations in East Africa, the private reserves of The Waterberg region, are rich in plains game but do not have large predators such as elephant and buffalo – thus making them ideal for riders of all levels, even beginners.
There are both set departure dates for small group safaris, one of which crosses into the stunning Mashatu Reserve in Botswana, and also bespoke lodge based riding operations.
South Africa is an ideal choice for accompanying non riders, with a host of activities offered by these superb private ranches. For those who wish to include perhaps just one day in the saddle, there are hugely worthwhile options in The Cape Winelands – riding along old tractor routes through vineyards, orchards, forests and mountain passes, including wine tasting and lunch.
There are large tracts of malaria free country which means that this is an ideal destination for a family.
